ID Badge Printer Innovation

By Catherine Williams of Safecard ID

Today’s businesses and schools demand the latest in innovations from their ID badge printer. Printer manufacturers stay on top of innovations needed for custom ID cards used in today’s organizations. From entry level printers to the professional ID card printers, improved features and offerings are provided by printer manufacturers seeking to meet the current needs of multiple users, additional custom card uses and latest computer operating system updates.

Single sided ID card printers are able to print full color or monochrome colored custom plastic cards in a 300 DPI output. Quality manufacturers such as Zebra, Fargo, Evolis, Magicard and Datacard provide the capabilities for custom cards that may include photos, logos and custom text. Printers also come with options for encoding magnetic stripes or smart cards as well.

Dual sided printers provide either a single sided printed card or a dual sided card print. The colorful plastic card provides additional surface to print employee or student identification information as well as needed bar coding or other encoding.

When researching the benefits and use of identification card printer, it is good to understand techniques and best practices with the ID card printer handling so that the best outcome can be obtained throughout the printer lifetime. When following best practices, the printer is most likely to produce consistent quality cards time after time.

Prior to obtaining a printer, it is important to understand what you want from the printer. Will single side printing be acceptable or is dual sided printing required? Questions such as this should be answered before or at the beginning of the research phase of the printer acquisition process. It is also a good idea to compare the various manufacturer’s warranties, printer construction, field upgradable options and technical support may all play a factor in the printer best suited for your needs.

By downloading printer specification sheets for different printer models, it is possible to narrow down the printer options. Found on manufacturer website, specification sheets indicate the features and potential future upgrades available on that printer model. Often, you can touch base with an ID card printer distributor who can provide detailed information about the printers and other user experiences to assist in your quest for an id badge printer.

When looking at printers, review the recommended printer maintenance schedule. Regular cleaning is important for photo ID card printers. Dust and dirt are not friends with the printer. The printer is unable to print clear professional looking badges without a clean environment and clean image grade PVC cards or printable HID card.

By following the manufacturer’s recommendations found in the printer’s operations manual, the correct cleaning can be maintained. Normally a printer cleaning occurs at the time of a printer ribbon change to make it easy to remember to complete the cleaning. Some manufacturers include a cleaning roller with their printer ribbons to help in the ease of maintaining the printer.

Following just a few basic tips from the id card printer experts can help to provide successful and hassle free ID card printing.
