Corrections Facilities and Safety Officers Benefit from ID Badges
By Catherine Williams
Police Officer Safety A corrections officer has one of the most dangerous jobs there is. ID badges for corrections employees are currently some of the most high-tech ID cards available. They often incorporate holographic images, and magnetic strips in order to prevent unlawful duplication of these ID badges to protect the officers and the people that they serve. Other security measures include fingerprints, digital photographs, colorization, biometrics and the use of original font sizes. Keeping the Public Safe A police officer that has an ID badge presents a professional and authoritative appearance. However, because of the high incidence of impersonation of police officers, ID badges also serve another purpose. They allow people who are confronted by a police officer to call into the dispatch system to let them find out if the person is an actual police officer or not. This protects the safety of everyone. This type of security feature can set a person's mind at ease about the officer that has pulled them over or approached their door at home. Safety in Correctional Facilities Correctional facilities are one place that proper identification is of the utmost importance. This is because safety of both the inmates and correctional officers is a top priority. The job of a correctional officer is to ensure that order is maintained, as well as maintaining that the security of the facility in which they work is not compromised. Correctional officers have many duties that go along with security of the facility and inmates. All security personnel should wear ID badges that show their picture and identify which area of the building they are assigned to. This is not only for their safety, it provides a professional appearance and an impression of authority to inmates. An ID badge should be considered part of the standard uniform for correctional officers and police. Security officers are not the only ones in a correctional facility that benefit from ID badges. Inmates also benefit from having ID badges. Their uses are endless. They can identify that an inmate is who they claim to be, that they are in the correct area of the facility, etc. Tracking inmates is one of the ways that ID cards are used. ID cards can also be used for inmate purchases, eliminating the need for money within the facility. The high level of security needs that come with corrections makes it the perfect arena for the use of ID badges. Police officers need to be able to identify themselves and prove their authority. Corrections officers need ID badges, and so do the inmates. Having everyone in a facility have to wear some kind of ID badge keeps everyone safer. They can be used for tracking and for purchases. ID badges are a necessity in this field.
